FAQ

Where are you located?

We are located in Richards Bay, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa, about 200km from Durban. We are in an area along the coast known as the Elephant coast.

How long does delivery take?

We send all hides out airfreight using privately owned couriers or the post office, depending on your delivery choice. Delivery can take 2- 4 weeks as we do have to apply for a permit and this does take a bit of time. We can send out via a courier of your choice and can obtain a quote for you should you want to go with this option. We do also use the post office for some deliveries.

Where do you obtain your Zebra hides from?

We obtain our hides from various suppliers and game farms. We buy directly from government approved legal culling practices as well as legal hunting farms and game reserves. All hides have been approved by government authorities which carefully monitors these practices.

What documents do you supply with your Zebra hides?

Each country has it own requirements so we will check on what is needed for your country. Generally for most countries what we send is a conservation document which shows the Zebra hide and scientific name, we send a KZN Wildlife permit that shows that the hide can be exported out of South Africa and is legal and then a tanning certificate to show that the hide is treated to international standards and is disease free .

Quality & grading

We grade our hides as follows

    AA Grade
  • These are the best hides available on the market and  amount to less than 2% of the hides that we get in. Very rare, They are graded by pattern, size and lack of visible scars are the best of the best
  • A Grade
  • These hides are very high quality hides with few natural scars or any hair loss. These hides are very good hides and make for excellent rugs
  • B Grade
  • Usually smaller skins or larger skins with some natural blemishes.
  • C Grade
  • Mostly skins that are used for upholstery and are smaller or blemished Zebra skins.

Felted Hides

  • If a Zebra hide does not have felt backing this can be added. Felt backing is an additional cost of $90
  • Fun Fact

  • Why do zebras have stripes at all?
  • Scientists aren't sure, but many theories center on their utility as some form of camouflage.
  • The patterns may make it difficult for predators to identify a single animal from a running herd and distort distance at dawn and dusk.
  • Or they may dissuade insects that recognize only large areas of single-colored fur or act as a kind of natural sunscreen.
  • Because of their uniqueness, stripes may also help zebras recognize one another
